Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) container

A specialised container for the safe storage of toxic, corrosive and flammable chemicals. Chemicals that can be stored include concentrated acids, formaldehyde, formalin, ethanol and acetone.

  • Certified DNV2.7.1 and IMDG
  • DG Flammable Liquids (Class 3) and Corrosives/ Miscellaneous (Class 8/ Class 9) partitions
  • Strengthened to meet offshore standards
  • Fireproof construction
  • Built in gas detection
  • EX rated fire detection system
  • Fire suppression systems
  • Internal partition impervious to fumes and liquids
  • Marinised HVAC system to supply a controllable temperature of 17°C +/- 2°C in ambient temperatures between the ranges of: -20°C (Antarctic) to 40°C (Tropics)
  • All light fittings, outlets and switches rated to IP56
  • 600mm deep stainless steel shelving
  • Tie down points every 300 mm along shelving, to secure storage items
  • Non-metallic components where possible; stainless steel where metal components required.

Radiation laboratory (RADVAN) container

A specialised container for scientific research involving use of low level radioisotopes.

  • Certified DNV2.7.1/DNV2.7.2
  • Strengthened to meet offshore standards
  • Built in gas detection
  • EX rated fire detection system
  • Fire suppression systems
  • Marinised HVAC system to supply a controllable temperature of 17° C +/- 2°C in ambient temperatures between the ranges of -20°C (Antarctic) to 40°C (Tropics)
  • Differential pressure control between vestibule and main lab
  • All light fittings, outlets and switches rated to IP56
  • Dynaflow 1500GRP Fumehood with 6mm toughened glass sash and sink suitable for ‘hot’ liquid waste (compliant with AS2243.8)
  • HIDEX SLL-300 Super low level liquid scintillation counter
  • 10 standard power outlets supplying both 415V and 240V
  • Vestibule serving as change room, a decontamination area and a sample delivery point with short bench and sink
  • Work benches: Two work benches (One 850 x 2200 mm holding the liquid scintillation counter (LSC); one 500 x 3835 mm containing 2 sinks)
  • Liquid radioactive waste storage area for 12 x 25 litre waste carboys
  • Emergency Access hatch

Trace Metal Clean (TM1 and TM2) containers

A series of specialised containers for conducting trace metal clean work. They can be used for chemical and biological oceanography, atmospheric science and geoscience research.

TM1

  • High Cube TEU – 20’x8’x9’6”
  • Mac 10 FFU 2x4 HEPA @ 0.3 microns
  • 2 x Laminar Flow Hoods (LFH)
  • Marinised HVAC system to supply a controllable temperature of 17°C +/- 2°C in ambient temperatures between the ranges of: -20°C (Antarctic) to 40°C (Tropics)
  • Mac 10 LE-AC Filter Fan units and HEPA filtration system
  • The container is divided internally by a partition — approx. 20% wet entrance area and 80% clean laboratory/dry space
  • There is one sink in the main clean compartment and one in the wet area
  • Connected to ships PA system.

TM2

  • Custom Built TEU - 20’x8’x8’6”
  • Marinised HVAC system to supply a controllable temperature of 20°C +/- 2-5°C in ambient temperatures between the ranges of: -10°C (Antarctic) to 40°C (Tropics)
  • HEPA FFU system
  • The container is divided internally by a partition – approx. one third wet entrance area and two thirds clean laboratory
  • 3 Laminar Flow Hoods (two located in main clean area and one in entrance area)
  • There is one sink in the main clean compartment and one trough in the wet area.
  • Bottle racks for the 12-bottle Trace Metal Rosette Niskin bottles
  • Connected to Ships PA system.

Specialised clean container for the storage of the trace metal CTD rosette and in-situ pumps.

A specially designed container for the storage of long and short sediment coring equipment.
