The Hydrochemistry Laboratory is unique to RV Investigator and is permanently fitted with instruments to measure nutrients, dissolved oxygen, and salinity in seawater. It is temperature-controlled and located next to the CTD Laboratory, with direct access between these two areas. It is also adjacent to the Underway Seawater Laboratory.
The dedicated hydrochemistry team from CSIRO performs analyses of seawater samples for salinity, dissolved oxygen, and nutrients (nitrate plus nitrite, phosphate, silicate and ammonium), and provides high-quality data to the science party. These measurements underpin biogeochemical observations as well as physical oceanography observations, and are used to calibrate onboard and CTD sensors.
