The global move to LED Lighting has led to a market place flooded with lighting products manufactured in low cost countries, of varying quality and capability. LED Lighting and intelligent control can however offer far more.
Australia is a leader in designing intelligent LED lighting systems and has an opportunity to develop and manufacture cost-effective and efficient solutions, at a competitive price to ably compete in this global arena.
Our response
Partnering with Industry
We partnered with an Australian-based IoT technology company, Vivid Technology.
The company is developing technology-focused solutions to maximise energy efficiency across the commercial and industrial landscape. Vivid Industrial has developed a unique global leading lighting platform which is more cost-effective and energy efficient than other comparable systems.
We used our leading research and skills to help Vivid Technology improve elements of its advanced manufacturing process and cost competitiveness of its systems.
The partnership was funded by a grant through the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Connect program, provided by the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science’s Entrepreneurs program.
The results
Energy efficient, cost effective LED manufacturing methods
We helped Vivid Technology reduce manufacturing time from 24 hours to just a few minutes for much of its intelligent LED lighting system.
This 100-fold increase in production speed means its Matrixx® LED lighting system can be manufactured much faster at a reduced cost.
CSIRO have been a valuable partner to Vivid Technology. The collaborative approach and input into the project briefs ensured there was clarity on project outcomes and that the possible outcomes were influenced by leading scientific research.
