Your personal information is protected by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act). CSIRO will handle your information in accordance with this Act and the latest National Health & Medical Research Council National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research or as otherwise required by law.

Your personal information, including your name, position, contact details, and work history may be collected for the purpose of administering this grant program.

CSIRO may collect images or video recordings of you. Sensitive information about you, as defined by the Privacy Act, may be inferred from your image (such as your race or ethnicity). You do not have to provide your us with your image, and if you do so it will be taken that you have consented to this collection of sensitive information. CSIRO may wish to use images of you in its promotional materials – we will not do so unless you have given us explicit consent.

CSIRO may disclose your personal information to third parties where it is necessary to administer and achieve this program. This may include where it is necessary to match grantees with US organisations, and in records we will need to provide to the Department of Industry, Science and Research in order to satisfy the acquittal requirements of the program. Any reports you prepare as part of a placement you undertake, including Executive Summaries of reports, may be included in CSIRO reports and publications about the program. If these reports or summaries include personal information, it will be included and CSIRO may have little effective control over how widely that information is then disclosed. However, CSIRO will never disclose your personal information unless it is either for the purpose of administering and furthering this program, or CSIRO is authorised or required by law to make such a disclosure.

Because this program is connecting grantees with US based organisations, CSIRO may, necessarily, disclose your personal information overseas to those organisations. If your personal information is transferred outside of Australia, it may no longer be subject to the requirements and protections of the Australian Privacy Principles.

By participating in the project, you consent to the transfer of your personal information to servers located outside of Australia and you acknowledge that this information may not be subject to the requirements of the Privacy Act. If you have any concerns about this, you should not participate in the project.

We will only collect personal information from you that we reasonably require. We request that you do not provide personal information that we do not ask for, and do not reasonably require, and do not provide us with personal information about another person without that person’s consent. If you do not provide personal information that we reasonably require, you may be unable to participate. However, if this occurs, it will not affect your relationship with CSIRO in any other way.

You are free to withdraw at any time during the project. Unless requested, we will retain any personal information collected prior to your withdrawal from the study. If you request that we delete your personal information, we will do so if permitted by and in accordance with any applicable laws (including the Privacy Act and the Archives Act 1983 (Cth)).

For further information on how CSIRO handles your personal information and our access, correction and complaints process please read our privacy policy available on our website or by contacting us at privacy@csiro.au.
