To analyse geological spectral datasets from a range of different instruments presents both a technical and methodological challenge.
To tackle this challenge, data from numerous instrument types need to be catered for and seamlessly imported into the geologists workflow, while repeatable and robust methodologies are needed for reliable interpretation and analysis.
Our response
A software tool to consistently analyse spectral datasets
We developed The Spectral Geologist (TSG) to provide researchers and exploration geoscientists with a software tool that could consistently analyse and interpret datasets from different spectrometers.
It is capable of providing a consistent framework from which spectral algorithms can be applied to interpret various datasets.
TSG also forms an essential part of our revolutionary HyLogging system, which automates drillcore analysis.
As part of the HyLogging system, TSG produces automated logs or reports on drillcore analyses that geologists have traditionally created manually.
The results
Software adopted by explorers in more than 47 countries
TSG bridges data collection and analysis to produce valuable reports for researchers and explorers.
Our ongoing development of TSG has ensured its remained the world’s best spectral analysis software for data collected by handheld spectrometers and point sampling systems.
By 2018, TSG was being used in 47 countries, helping to further explorers and researchers’ knowledge of mineral systems and the underlying geological processes involved.
TSG has also been applied to more than 5000 drillcores scanned through the HyLogging system by the seven state and territory geological surveys around Australia, which form the National Virtual Core Library.
