About the placement

This internship is with Cordel and is facilitated by the CSIRO’s Generation STEM Links program.

In this role, you'll be working with an experienced team to play a part in maintaining the precision and efficiency of Cordel’s data processing pipeline. Your responsibilities will include, assisting in conducting operations within the data processing pipeline, assisting in the reviewing of data exports, identifying deviations, and collaborating with their Delivery Team to rectify any defects. You'll learn industry-standard tools like 3DReshaper & QGIS to help ensure that Cordel’s data meets the highest quality standards.

Work arrangements

  • Start date: Flexible (Late Nov- Jan)
  • Working arrangement: Casual with the possibility of flexible hours based on business and students’ requirements
  • Remuneration: $35/hour plus super on a Casual Contract with Cordel
  • Location: Newcastle West (onsite)
  • Number of positions: 3-4

Desired capabilities

  • Currently studying an undergraduate degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Surveying, Environmental Science, Mathematics or other related discipline.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively articulate ideas and concepts.
  • Proficiency in the use of productivity software such as Microsoft Office or Google Suite, and exposure to issue tracking software like Trello, Asana, or Jira.
  • A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively within a team to achieve shared objectives.
  • Demonstrated strong time management skills and ability to work unsupervised.
  • Familiarity or proficiency in operating Command Line Interface (CLI) tools, or a willingness to learn and develop these skills under guidance.
  • Exposure to or coursework in one or more of the following technologies: LiDAR Data, GIS Systems, Quality Assurance, Railway Engineering, or related equivalents. While prior experience is not mandatory, a keen interest and foundational knowledge in these areas would be advantageous.
