About the placement

This internship is with Next Ore and is facilitated by the CSIRO’s Generation STEM Links program.

In this role you will use your data analysis skills to work with the team at Next Ore to help support their investigation of the impact of bulk ore sorting technology. Key responsibilities will include analysing geological and mineralogical data, assisting in generating detailed reports for clients based on data and modelling results, assisting in developing numerical models that combine technical and economic data to support decision making in mining.

Top of Form This role is prefect for students with an interest and affinity for both data science and mining.

Work arrangements

  • Start date: November 2024
  • Working arrangement: Part time on a fixed term contract with the possibility of ongoing employment for the right candidate.
  • Remuneration: $400 p/week on a part time employment contract with Next Ore
  • Location: Silverwater NSW 2128

Desired capabilities

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Geology, Mining, Geo-statistics, or Data science, with an interest in mining technologies.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly learn about mining data analysis and technologies.
  • Proficiency in data processing and programming software (Python and Excel preferred).
  • Introductory understanding of mining and geology.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong Report writing skills
  • Familiarity or interest in Mining operations is preferred but not required
  • Experience with tools such as requirements.txt, virtual environments, or version control systems is preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of a second language, particularly Spanish, Portuguese, or Filipino (Tagalog), is beneficial however not required

Requirements

  • Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must be in your penultimate or final year of an undergraduate qualification.
