About the placement

This internship is with Smart MC’s and is facilitated by the CSIRO’s Generation STEM Links program.

In this role, you will work in a biotech start-up and work among innovative technology to assist in the production of microcarriers. You will have the chance to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to a startup that is shaping the future of cell therapy. Your work will provide hands-on experience in microfabrication, microfluidics, system engineering, fluidic setup, and research and development (R&D).

This opportunity is ideal for Motivated and passionate individuals who are eager to gain real world experience in the biotech industry.

Work arrangements

  • Start date: September to early October
  • Working arrangement: Part time or Casual on a fixed term contract, with the possibility for further employment for the right candidate.
  • Hours will primarily be between 10am- 5pm. While we require flexibility in working hours and days, the production schedule can be planned in advance to suit your availability. On average, we require a total of 20-25 working hours per week
  • Remuneration: $25/hour plus super on a temporary contract with Smart MC’s
  • Location: Pyrmont, Sydney

Desired capabilities

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Engineering degree (Mechanical or Mechatronics)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design, fluid mechanics, and system engineering.
  • Previous hands-on experience in a lab or production environment is desirable
  • Understanding of microfabrication and microfluidics is desirable
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for mechanical design and prototyping.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail and precision in executing tasks.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively report on project progress and collaborate with team members.

Requirements

  • Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must be in your penultimate or final year of an undergraduate or TAFE qualification.
  • This is a confidential project and applicants will be required to sign non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and IP-Assignment deed with Smart MCs
