About the placement

This internship is with Planet Protector and is facilitated by the CSIRO’s Generation STEM Links program.

The role focuses on utilising sustainable materials and packaging research to integrate the use of non-conventional, sustainable materials, improve logistics efficiencies and find ways to reduce waste/resource usage. Other duties may also include assessing corporate social responsibility, evaluating suppliers and engaging with relevant sustainability organisations and industry events.

To be successful in this internship you will enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary environment and have experience or willingness to learn to interact with stakeholders to improve service delivery. You will also have a degree of understanding around regulations, legislation and policy.

Work arrangements

  • Start date: March/early April 2025
  • Working arrangement: Part time 2-3 days per week for 200 hours on a fixed term contract
  • Remuneration: $25/hour on a temporary contract with Planet Protector
  • Location: Silverwater, NSW, 2128

Desired capabilities

  • The placement is open to undergraduate students studying a broad range of degrees such as sustainable development, engineering, design, architecture, environmental sustainability or other related degrees.
  • Technical knowledge of sustainability frameworks and tools.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work autonomously and on tasks with high ambiguity.
  • Adaptable, flexible and eager to learn. Being in a startup means that no two days are the same!
  • Grant and Award writing experience highly regarded but not essential

Requirements

  • Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must be in your penultimate or final year of an undergraduate qualification.

Planet Protector Packaging is on a mission to eliminate polystyrene from cold supply chains. Our packaging solution, WOOLPACK, is made from 100% waste wool ordinarily destined for landfill. Our company is growing rapidly, and we are looking for a Sustainability Intern/Project Coordinator to join our team, with an immediate start and work from our office located in Silverwater, Sydney. We are looking for a go-getter with technical knowledge of sustainability concepts and current policy.
