RV Investigator is equipped with a number of cranes providing access and service to each deck and compartment at sea or in port.

Technical details
A-Frame
The mooring anchor is prepared on the back deck of RV Investigator. Image: Michael Watson.
Triplex 20 tonne A-frame for deploying large equipment.
Provides a means of deployment and retrieval whilst keeping the equipment clear of the ship.
Height of 9.4 m, width of 5.3 m and is capable of swinging 170 degrees.
Main working crane
Can lift 25 tonnes at a reach of 12 m and 5 tonnes at 20 m
Situated to reach the entire aft deck.
Note that the main crane cannot be operated at sea.
Stores crane
Located on the forward deck and used to resupply the ship.
Capable of lifting 5 tonnes at a reach of 10 m.
Utility crane
Aft deck utility cranes are located on each side of the ship.
The utility crane is used for moving and deploying equipment.
They have a capacity of 5 tonnes at 10 m.
