Voyage summary
Transit voyage from Brisbane to Sydney to relocate vessel for dry dock activities. One Argo float will be deployed during the voyage.
Voyage impact
CSIRO is a contributor to Argo, an innovative project to gather upper ocean data using robotic floats. Working as a fleet of more than 3,000 autonomous drifting sensors, the 1.5 m tall automatic profilers collect sub-surface data from the global ocean. Critically, they have revolutionised the acquisition of year round, near real time information on ocean and climate conditions.
Argo data complement other observations obtained from ships, moored instruments and earth-observing satellites. These data are used in operational ocean and climate analysis and forecasting, and oceanographic and climate research. The Argo float deployed during this voyage will contribute to these data.
