Voyage summary
Transit voyage from Brisbane to Singapore for scheduled dry docking, maintenance and middle of life refit works for RV Investigator. No scientific research will be conducted during the transit and, in preparation for dry docking, the vessel’s underway data systems and other instrumentation will progressively be switched off during the transit.
The maintenance schedule for the vessel requires a dry docking to be conducted every 5 years to carry out ship surveys (to meet class requirements) and for major maintenance tasks. Dry docking also provides the opportunity to undertake equipment, system and infrastructure upgrades and a middle of life refit (Mid-Life Refit) project will commence for the vessel at this time. The Mid-Life Refit project will ensure that RV Investigator continues to provide world-leading research capabilities that enable Australia to conduct vital ocean and atmospheric science in our region.
RV Investigator will spend approximately 45 days in Singapore for the dry docking and associated sea trials for testing and commissioning of systems.
The Mid-Life Refit project will then continue when the vessel returns to its home port of Hobart in September, with works to be undertaken both in the short term and across upcoming voyage schedules. These works will be informed through ongoing consultation with the scientific community on the suggested upgrades to best meet Australia's marine and atmospheric research needs.
RV Investigator is scheduled to depart Singapore on 7 September to return to its home port of Hobart, arriving on 26 September.
