The challenge
Taking meat’s nutritional benefits to snacks
The modern consumer rarely sits down for three meals a day, giving rise to a range of high protein convenience products in recent years.
Protein is an essential macronutrient vital to a healthy diet. One of the advantages of meat is that it is a complete protein containing all essential amino acids, as well as other important nutrients.
As meat requires refrigeration it’s found in few non-perishable, convenience products.
But new shelf-stable formats could unlock a $3.8 billion market opportunity for Australia's meat sector.
Our response
High protein meat powder
We are turning meat into a nutrient dense, high protein powder ingredient.
It can be used in a wide range of products – from protein balls to bars and shakes. It could also be incorporated to savoury snacks for a nutritional boost.
We’re building a new venture to take our Just Meat protein powder to food manufacturers for use as an ingredient in new products.
Just Meat provides an allergen-free option for people with dairy or soy intolerances.
Other advantages include high solubility, mild taste and odour, dense micronutrients and certified origins.
Importantly, it adds value and supports sustainability in Australia’s meat industry, by upgrading manufacturing grade meat.
We collaborated with Meat & Livestock Australia in the development of Just Meat.
The results
Value-adding to Australia's meat industry
Just Meat supports sustainability in the meat industry, and helps farmers to make more from their product.
Just Meat will provide nutrition to local and global markets. For example, it could bring meat’s nutritional benefits to very remote locations or in disaster relief where refrigerated transportation is a barrier.
The next stage is to partner with industry and investors to conduct product trials and co-create a new venture.
