Important information

The National AI Centre (NAIC) is transitioning from CSIRO to the Department of Industry, Science, and Resources (DISR) on 1st July 2024. For any NAIC-related questions, please email NAIC@industry.gov.au.

Achieving a net-zero future (i.e., achieving carbon neutrality in lifestyle and infrastructure) alongside achieving disaster resilience in Queensland, involves a comprehensive and coordinated effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transition communities to being more resilient. Advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) will play a crucial role in both disaster risk reduction, prediction, monitoring, and in protecting people from the impacts of climate change, addressing flooding, bushfires, cyclones and heatwaves amidst rising sea levels.

This collaboration between James Cook University and Griffith University connects the strengths of regional and city researchers who will work together on key research areas towards a nature resilient ‘Net Zero Future’ in Queensland. Our industry partners - Blue Carbon, Bentley Education, Townsville City Council, G2X, Rockfield Technologies, and Spark NQ - provide strategic research opportunities to unlock Queensland’s potential to thrive in a state that experiences two thirds of Australia’s natural disasters.

Our research projects will focus students’ attention on agendas that enable greenhouse gas emissions reductions (mitigation) as well as local infrastructure adaptation strategies, towards regional and remote community resilience. The students’ experiences and contributions through their research will build workforce capacity and make a positive difference to the lives of Queenslanders.
