At CSIRO we aim to connect our global partners with Australian research and innovation to help solve our shared problems and capitalise on global opportunities.
Along with Singapore’s Agency for Research, Technology and Research (A*STAR) we have established a Master Research
Collaboration Agreement to strengthen Singapore-Australia science, technology and innovation research collaboration in fields of mutual interest relevant to the green economy.
The CSIRO-A*STAR Innovation in Food for Sustainability Program (IF4S Program) is a result of this collaboration and aims to redefine the future of sustenance, focusing on innovations that cater to the escalating demand for sustainable food options, in both Australia and Singapore.
About the Program
The IF4S Program requires the partnership of researchers from CSIRO and the Singaporean innovation ecosystem to develop science underpinning new foods and ingredients and help accelerate commercialisation.
The IF4S Program will fund projects that build food scientific capability for both countries to addresses major challenges for our:
- economy: food security and industry development
- environment: sustainability of food systems
- society: reducing impact of chronic diseases, ageing and
- food safety threats: providing tools and data for policy makers and regulators to make informed decisions.
Four thematic areas have been identified as shared priorities between Australia and Singapore. Applicants have been asked to submit research projects that address one or more of these four themes:
- Production of new or novel ingredients: Fractionation and/or Precision Fermentation
- Nutrition and Health
- Consumer acceptance of Complementary Protein/Novel Foods
- Food Side Stream/Waste Valorisation.
Research projects addressing these thematic areas could receive up to A$1million in funding, with a total of four projects expected to be funded.
The research will contribute to CSIRO’s Future Protein Mission, which aims to capture a A$10b opportunity for Australia to deliver a suite of new and value-added protein products by 2030.
Benefits of the IF4S Program
Through the IF4S Program participants:
- access grant funding to progress their research
- knowledge share, learn new skills and build relationships internationally
- tackle shared problems, working collaboratively to create more impact
- can help to position Australia as world-leaders in the new food and ingredients space
- have the opportunity to develop new industries in both countries.
Through our international programs such as the IF4S program, we are helping connect the best Australian research, science and technology to the world.
