Avantium Flowrence: Multichannel heterogeneous catalyst testing rig

Our 48 channel gas conversion catalyst testing rig is fast-tracking catalyst development and discovery.

Scientist using materials processing facility

The Avantium Flowrence instrument is a multiplexed 48 channel catalyst testing rig that allows simultaneous screening of 48 different candidate materials for use as catalysts in gas phase heterogeneous reactions.

The machine can operate at pressures between atmospheric and 200 bar, and temperatures between 50 degrees Celsius and 750 degrees Celsius with as little as 20 milligram of catalyst material.

Chemspeed SLTII

Our Chemspeed synthesis platform has transformed the way we undertake exploratory research in polymer and nanoparticle synthesis and formulation.

While the Chemspeed robotic synthesis platform is changing how scientists are undertaking their materials development. The robotic platform can undertake most chemical manipulations that a human scientist could undertake. This includes dispensing solids and liquids, refluxing and vortexing all under inert atmosphere.

In particular, workflows have been developed for:

  • RAFT polymer synthesis
  • anionic polymerisation
  • kinetic polymerisation studies
  • polymer nanoparticle formulation
  • amphiphile nanoparticle self-assembly
  • mesoporous silica nanoparticles
  • metal organic framework synthesis
  • ionic liquid synthesis
  • catalyst impregnation.

Chemspeed SWING XL: robotic synthesis, formulation and processing

Our newly purchased Chemspeed SWING robotic synthesis and formulation platform will be utilised to deliver increased outcomes for our researchers by automating our research workflows

The Chemspeed robotic synthesis platforms are transforming the way that scientists are undertaking their materials development. The robotic platforms can undertake most chemical manipulations that a chemist could traditionally undertake. The advantage of using the robotics is that it can make numerous materials in the same time-frame that a scientist could make only a few with increased reproducibility and consistency.

This is extremely important when undertaking systematic studies and optimising materials and formulations.

Automated steps include the dispensing of solids, gels and liquids, refluxing and vortexing, shear mixing, centrifugation, drying and sonication all under an inert atmosphere.

Example workflows that have been developed to date include:

  • RAFT and other polymer synthesis techniques
  • anionic polymerisation
  • kinetic polymerisation studies
  • polymer nanoparticle formulation
  • metal nanoparticle formulation
  • amphiphile nanoparticle self-assembly
  • mesoporous silica nanoparticles
  • metal organic framework synthesis
  • ionic liquid synthesis
  • catalyst impregnation.

We are interested in working with our clients and partners to utilise this impressive capability, but also to develop further workflows.

Wyatt DynaPro Plate format DLS

Automated, high-throughput, temperature-controlled dynamic light scattering (DLS).

The DynaPro DLS plate reader incorporates state-of-the-art technology, providing superior filter-free high throughput dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements. The instrument measures samples directly from most standard microplate formats (96, 384, or 1536 well plates. When using the 1536 well plates, as little as four microlitres of sample is required per well. After the plate is loaded into the DynaPro, the data is collected automatically. Once the data is collected the samples can be recovered and the plates discarded.

The DynaPro is suitable for high throughput screening experiments. Popular applications include:

  • Nanoparticle sizing- polymer, self assembled and inorganic
  • Bioprocessing and quality control of viral particles and vaccines
  • Screening proteins prior to crystallization trials
  • Exploring antibody formulations over a broad range of solution conditions.
