Key points

  • The Indigenous STEM Awards recognised and rewarded the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander STEM professionals and students as well as schools, teachers and mentors working in Indigenous STEM Education.
  • These Awards ran from 2016-2021.
  • CSIRO Education is proud of the award alumni who have gone on to achieve notable success.

Since the launch of the Indigenous STEM Awards in 2016, 44 winners and 120 finalists have been recognised for their outstanding contributions in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). There are seven categories of awards that cover high school and undergraduate students, STEM professionals, schools, teachers and mentors.

The Award categories were:

  1. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander STEM Professional Award
  2. School Award
  3. STEM Champion Award
  4. Teacher Award
  5. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student STEM Achievement Award
  6. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Maths Award
  7. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Science Award
