COVID-19

Our Compact Array Visitors Centre at Paul Wild Observatory, the outdoor viewing area and public toilets are opened. In response to the COVID-19 situation, please practice physical distancing and other precautions.

Opening hours

7 days a week from 8.00am to 5.00pm (including public holidays)

Location

See map and directions to Paul Wild Observatory.

Getting to the observatory

You'll find our Compact Array telescope and visitors centre at Paul Wild Observatory, about 25 km from the town of Narrabri and 500 km from Sydney.

Please drive carefully as there are often kangaroos and sheep grazing on the site, particularly approaching dawn and dusk. During and after rain a series of causeways/floodways can become quite deep, slow down and cross with care.

Entry costs

  • Free admission

Help us listen to whispers from space

The 'noise' created by our modern gadgets can overwhelm the weak signals from space our telescopes are trying to detect. You can help us listen to whispers from space by switching your phone to airplane/flight mode, and turning off other WiFi and Bluetooth-enabled devices before you arrive. We welcome photography and digital video when you visit, however, please ensure that your device is in airplane/flight mode.
