While delivering great science is important, the safety and well-being of our people and partners on board research vessel (RV) Investigator will always be our number one priority.

Our Marine National Facility (MNF) has put in place strict voyage COVID management protocols to help reduce risks of potential infection to participants and crew onboard RV Investigator.

There are a range of measures undertaken before and during a voyage to protect our participants and partners against COVID. These measures are assessed on an ongoing basis to ensure they provide the greatest protection with changes in the situation, health professional advice or level of risk.

Subject to risk assessment, voyages may include an on-shore quarantine period prior to participants boarding the vessel, PCR and rapid antigen testing, and onboard mask wearing.

Current voyage measures include:

  • All participants are required to meet a mandatory vaccination requirement for COVID.

Our Voyage COVID Management Protocols are informed by expert advice from health professionals and support a best practice approach to protecting the health and safety of voyage participants, crew and the community.

Our management approach includes regular desktop and live COVID response drills onboard the vessel. Our policy is regularly reviewed and benchmarked against the best practice of international commercial vessels and the health community.

In the lead up to a voyage, our MNF team supply all participants with relevant COVID protocol information to ensure they are well-prepared and supported ahead of their voyage.
