The Chief Executive of CSIRO is appointed by the CSIRO Board, in consultation with the Minister, pursuant to section 10B of the Science and Industry Research Act 1949 (Cth).
The functions of the CSIRO Board are:
- to ensure the proper and efficient performance of the functions of CSIRO
- to determine the policy of CSIRO with respect to any matter
- to give directions to the Chief Executive
- such other functions as are conferred on it by the Science and Industry Research Act 1949 (Cth).
CSIRO Board members (apart from the Chief Executive) are appointed by the Governor-General, pursuant to section 14A of the Science and Industry Research Act 1949 (Cth).
