Our Future World is a report that gives CSIRO's perspective on coming change. It's the evidence base and our analysis of what's coming and it aims to help people in industry and government community make wiser decisions about the future. Megatrends are trajectories of change that occur at the intersection of multiple trends and drivers geopolitical, economic, social, environmental, technological and legal.
00;00;27;18 - 00;00;37;01
Speaker 1
Megatrends build gradually but eventually express themselves quite powerfully and have implications for the strategic landscape within which industry, government and society operates.
00;00;37;04 - 00;00;43;24
Speaker 2
We often like to use the analogy of a rip current when talking about a megatrend. It can present both a risk and an opportunity.
00;00;44;14 - 00;00;57;16

Megatrends are building gradually around every company, every individual. They'll impact your career. They'll impact your organization and our ability to see early what's happening and take proactive action is a core to our ability to get a better outcome.
00;00;58;03 - 00;01;15;13
Speaker 2
So the report presents seven emerging megatrends that can help us explore what those future risks might be. What future trends Australian organizations and Australian leaders need to be mindful of in thinking about what the future could hold and provide some insights around what those potential impacts could look like.

One of the thing is change between now and the previous report in 2012 is that some of the risks are happening. Climate change is creating a lived experience for lots of Australians to flood through bushfires and through the extreme heat conditions that we've experienced. And this is one of the challenges looking forward. So we are in a point in history where there is some really big challenges that lie ahead of us, but there are reasons in this work to be optimistic as well.
00;01;39;19 - 00;01;58;12
Speaker 1
Our technological capability, our science and technology has really improved and our ability to tackle these issues and navigate a pathway through is excellent. Ultimately, this report is part of this ongoing conversation about the future. A conversation informed by science and evidence. But that's what strategic foresight is. It's a conversation about the future.

I guess as CSIRO we aim to provide the evidence, the data, the insights that can help guide organizations in thinking about the future. We see ourselves as contributors, collaborators and ultimately partners with Australian organizations in thinking about how they can respond to the emerging challenges ahead of them, but also how we can support them in taking up those opportunities.
