Dr Brian Griffiths: There is equipment for the geoscience community—the deep sea core is the most interesting one.
The atmospheric community has the weather radar and dedicated laboratories on a vessel for the first time in Australia.
For the oceanographers the ability to do trace metal clean sampling with dedicated laboratories is a major advance.
And probably the most critical thing with the new vessel is that it was designed to be quiet. This will improve the efficiency of the instruments that we have on board.
