Demonstration Facility

The CSIRO Hydrogen Technology Demonstration Facility in Clayton, Victoria, 
enables industry and researchers to demonstrate and test innovative 
hydrogen technologies.

The facility provides a safe and well-provisioned environment 
for researchers, industry partners and businesses to test, 
trial and demonstrate new and emerging technologies 
across the hydrogen value chain. With expertise in hydrogen 
engineering and safety, CSIRO offers end-to-end support to 
ensure your demonstration project achieves its potential.

Technology demonstration opportunities span across the 
hydrogen production value chain, including: 

• production 
• separation and processing 
• storage
• utilisation. 



The Hydrogen Technology Demonstration Facility includes:

• Seven fully equipped research bays
• Renewable energy supplied via power purchase agreement
• Hydrogen refuelling station with high pressure storage
• Cryogenic Research Facility
• Safety features such as hydrogen sensors and vents

Benefits of using the Hydrogen Technology 
Demonstration Facility

1. Safety: CSIRO has a team of experts available to help design 
your demonstration safely and facilitate the HAZOP process 
to ensure compliance with our stringent safety protocols.
2. Onsite support: A technical expert will be assigned as a 
point of contact to facilitate the demonstration project, 
source trades and accommodate visitors.
3. Facilities: Each work bay is equipped with single and three 
phase electricity, deionised water, piped gases, hydrogen 
sensors, alarms and hydrogen venting.
4. Scale up: With decades of experience in taking technology 
from bench to market, our experts will assist in elevating 
your technology’s TRL (Technology Readiness Level) with 
tailored support.
5. Network and exposure: With other hydrogen technology 
projects active in the facility, as well as frequent visits 
from national and international visitors, you will have 
the opportunity to showcase your technology to a broad 
range of professionals and expand your network within 
the hydrogen industry.


The Hydrogen Technology Demonstration Facility features a 
Hydrogen Refuelling Station, including an electrolyser that 
uses renewable electricity sourced from the grid, and 80kg 
of hydrogen storage. The Hydrogen Refuelling Station was 
co-funded by the Victorian Hydrogen Hub led by Swinburne 
University of Technology.

How to use the Hydrogen Technology 
Demonstration Facility

We welcome expressions of interest to access the facility 
for the purpose of testing, trialling or demonstrating 
hydrogen technology.

Hadean Energy used the Hydrogen Technology 
Demonstration Facility to test long term durability and 
performance of their Solid Oxide Electrolyser design.
