AUSGRAINZ is an alliance combining the strengths of two internationally recognised plant and food research organisations – Australia's CSIRO Plant Industry and New Zealand's Plant & Food Research.

Established in 2001, AUSGRAINZ is forging new directions in grains research to help the Australian and New Zealand grains industries compete more successfully in world markets. 

CSIRO Plant Industry is an internationally recognised plant research laboratory with an annual budget of A$80 million and over 800 staff at 9 sites located in or near major agribusiness centres around Australia.

Established in 2001, AUSGRAINZ is forging new directions in grains research to help the Australian and New Zealand grains industries compete more successfully in world markets.

CSIRO Plant Industry's mission is to apply strategic research in the plant sciences to promote profitable and sustainable agri-food, fibre and horticultural industries, develop novel plant products and improve natural resource management.

CSIRO has an annual budget of A$700 million with more than 6000 staff. CSIRO Plant Industry is able to draw on expertise from around the organisation to offer an effective, multidisciplinary research package.

Plant & Food Research [external link] is a New Zealand-based science company focused on generating knowledge to ensure sustainable growth of the plant and marine-based food industries.

With over 900 staff based at sites across New Zealand as well as in Europe, the USA and Australia, Plant & Food Research provides research and development that adds value to fruit, vegetable, crop and food products.

At the heart of Plant & Food Research is a goal to underpin the growth of plant and marine-based industries in New Zealand and offshore through the successful application and commercialisation of research-based innovation.

With scientific research in the key areas of elite cultivar development, sustainable production systems and bioprotection, Plant & Food Research supports the production of high quality produce that earns a premium in international markets.
